The Fed's June 2023 Policy Decision
With just two weeks until the next Federal Reserve meeting on June 14th, it remains unclear if the Fed will need to raise interest rates further to combat inflation. The 25 bps rate increase approved in May 2023 was the tenth in a row since March of 2022, and raised the benchmark policy rate to the 5.00%-5.25% range - the highest level since the summer of 2006 and the level most policymakers had projected as the likely stopping point for rate hikes.

TINA Becomes TARA
As WT Wealth Management has stated over the last several years, many Americans are underfunded in their retirement accounts and many more live beyond their means. In response, over the past 10 years, investors have used heavy equity market exposure in their portfolios, more out of necessity than preference. There just weren’t really any alternatives to equities.

At WT Wealth Management, we believe it is crucial to understand precisely what transpired in SVB's case, rather than equating their failure with the bad lending, inadequate capital and hidden interdependencies that was endemic during the financial crisis in 2008.

A Review of Newly Released Economic Data
The Federal Reserve is trying to slow consumption of goods and services, decrease spending and orchestrate tighter economic conditions in its battle against inflation. However, the job market and the US consumer seem to have their own ideas about what living their best life means.

The Presidential Election Cycle
Politicians like to be re-elected. It's how they keep their job. It's always been that way. Decades ago, after analyzing many presidential elections, political strategists worked out what factor appeared to move the vote the most... the answer?: the state of the general economy and/or the labor market in the 6-month run up to the election.

The Debt Ceiling is Just More Noise
Recent reports of an impending debt ceiling crisis in Washington DC sparked a few clients to call me and ask whether this could impact their investments. My initial reaction was, this is just noise. However, wanting to be more certain, I did several hours of research on the debt ceiling crises of the past. Following that research, I was more convinced than ever that, this is just noise.

WT Wealth Management is an SEC registered investment adviser, with in excess of $100 million in assets under management (AUM) with offices in Flagstaff, Scottsdale, Sedona and Tucson, AZ along with Jackson Hole, WY and Las Vegas, NV. WT Wealth Management is a manager of Separately Managed Accounts (SMAs). With SMAs, performance can vary widely from investor to investor as each portfolio is individually constructed and managed. Asset allocation weightings are determined based on a wide array of economic and market conditions the day the funds are invested. In an SMA, each investor may own individual Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs), individual equities or mutual funds. As the manager we have the freedom and flexibility to tailor the portfolio to address an individual investor's personal risk tolerance and investment objectives – thus making the account “separate” and distinct from all others we manage. An investment with WT Wealth Management is not insured or guaranteed by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) or any other government agency. Always seek out the advice of a qualified investment professional before deciding to invest. Investing in stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs carries certain specific risks and part or all of an account's value can be lost. In addition to the normal risks associated with investing, narrowly focused investments, investments in smaller companies, sector and/or thematic ETFs and investments in single countries typically exhibit higher volatility. International, Emerging Market and Frontier Market ETFs, mutual funds and individual securities may involve risk of capital loss from unfavorable fluctuations in currency values, from differences in generally accepted accounting principles or from economic or political instability that other nations experience. Individual bonds, bond mutual funds and bond ETFs will typically decrease in value as interest rates rise. A portion of a municipal bond fund's income may be subject to federal or state income taxes or the alternative minimum tax. Capital gains (short and long-term), if any, are subject to capital gains tax. Diversification and asset allocation may not protect against market risk or investment losses. At WT Wealth Management, we strongly suggest having a personal financial plan in place before making any investment decisions including understanding personal risk tolerance, having clearly outlined investment objectives and a clearly defined investment time horizon.
